SimonMed Imaging, a prominent outpatient imaging center in the United States, has teamed up with AZmed to revolutionize X-ray diagnostics using artificial intelligence (AI). This partnership aims to enhance efficiency, reduce waiting times, and elevate patient care standards by implementing AZmed’s AI solution, Rayvolve.
Recognizing the increasing volume of X-rays and the need for advanced AI assistance, SimonMed conducted a thorough audit of various companies in the space before selecting Rayvolve for a trial. The success and satisfaction among radiologists were apparent, with a remarkable improvement in Turnaround Time (TAT). Radiologists praised Rayvolve for streamlining their workflows and expressed satisfaction with the reduction in TAT.
Dr. Sean Raj, Chief Innovation Officer at SimonMed Imaging, stated, “Rayvolve improves patient care. Based on our study, since the implementation of AI, a patient diagnosed with a fracture receives results 6 times faster. Referring providers and patients both appreciate best-in-class TATs. Finally, we have seen boosts in our rads productivity and a simultaneous improvement in quality.”
During a six-month study comparing periods without AI and with AI, the total number of examinations increased by 6.95%. The implementation of Rayvolve resulted in a massive improvement in TAT, particularly for X-rays with fractures, which saw a marked 6x reduction and a 10x reduction during regular hours. This efficiency gain highlights the tangible benefits of AI integration in expediting diagnostic processes, leading to significant advancements in both efficiency and patient care.
The study also confirmed high sensitivity and specificity across SimonMed outpatient centers, with Rayvolve achieving a 98.5% sensitivity and an 88.2% specificity. This affirms the reliability and accuracy of the AI solution in identifying fractures, contributing to improved diagnostic precision.
Julien Vidal, CEO of AZmed, expressed pride in the impact of Rayvolve, stating, “Outpatient imaging centers often struggle with more X-rays to diagnose in a short amount of time, and we believe we are only scratching the surface of what AI can provide. Rayvolve is instrumental in decreasing waiting times, streamlining workflows, and ensuring the security of patient diagnostics.”
Looking ahead, Rayvolve aims to make an even more significant impact in 2024 by enabling fractures to be read within minutes of image acquisition. This collaboration marks a crucial moment in the intersection of medical imaging and AI, showcasing the transformative power of technology in advancing patient care.
SimonMed Imaging, headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, is one of the largest outpatient medical imaging providers and radiology practices in the United States. With approximately 170 sites across 11 states and over 200 subspecialty-trained radiologists, SimonMed offers a full range of diagnostic scans using the newest and most advanced imaging technologies while maintaining affordability and accessibility. The company is also a global leader in the clinical use of AI, particularly in early breast cancer detection and the evaluation of brain disorders.
On the other hand, AZmed, established in 2018, is a French company dedicated to enhancing working conditions for medical imaging professionals and improving patient care. Their AI tool, Rayvolve, is designed to identify various types of abnormalities in standard radiography, saving time for radiologists and emergency physicians and reducing the risk of diagnostic errors. Rayvolve is FDA-approved and holds the distinction of being the first French product to secure CE marking for AI software in conventional radiology. With over 1000 healthcare facilities worldwide relying on AZmed, their partnership with SimonMed demonstrates their commitment to advancing diagnostic capabilities and improving patient outcomes.
In summary, the partnership between SimonMed Imaging and AZmed signifies a significant step forward in AI-driven X-ray diagnostics. By integrating Rayvolve into their workflows, SimonMed is set to enhance efficiency, reduce waiting times, and elevate patient care standards. This collaboration demonstrates the transformative power of technology in the medical imaging field, paving the way for advancements in early diagnosis and treatment.
