In a groundbreaking development for emergency healthcare, Mediwave, the digital healthcare arm of Wavenet, has partnered with 1990 Suwa Seriya, Sri Lanka’s national pre-hospital emergency ambulance service, to unveil the world’s first AI-powered connected ambulance. With the help of Mixed Reality and Artificial Intelligence (AI), the fully Connected Ambulance aims to revolutionize emergency care.
The Connected Ambulance, powered by Mediwave’s integrated Emergency Response Suite, combines the latest in communication equipment, Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), and Augmented Reality (AR) capabilities. It allows Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to remotely connect with a physician at the Emergency Command and Control Centre (ECCC), monitor vital signs, and provide specialized care before reaching the hospital. This enhanced care during the crucial first hour, known as the golden hour, is vital in saving lives during medical emergencies.
One of the key features of the Mediwave system is its use of AR simulations for training emergency service personnel. This technology equips EMTs with the necessary information and skills to handle various special emergencies effectively. Additionally, the system employs a speech-to-text, AI-powered transcriber to digitize Electronic Patient Care Records (ePCR), eliminating delays in emergency treatment units and minimizing human error.
“We take pride in powering Sri Lanka’s sole pre-hospital emergency ambulance service, 1990 Suwa Seriya,” said Suren Pinto, CEO of Mediwave. “With a legacy of success and collaboration with health industry veterans, we are at the intersection of AR and AI. The heartbeat of our pioneering efforts is the first-of-its-kind Emergency Response Suite, seamlessly elevating the efficiency of emergency services.”
The launch event, held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, was attended by Health Minister Hon. (Dr.) Ramesh Pathirana, who expressed the government’s commitment to expanding the national emergency ambulance service. “Our commitment extends to expanding this service further with life-enhancing technology to make emergency healthcare accessible,” said Minister Pathirana.
This partnership between Mediwave and 1990 Suwa Seriya marks a significant shift in pre-hospital emergency management and sets a precedent for effective emergency response systems worldwide. The use of AI and Mixed Reality has transformative potential in the field of emergency healthcare, bringing together cutting-edge technology and real-time medical assistance to save lives.
