Google Launches Upgraded AI Chatbot Gemini

Google has recently launched an upgraded version of its AI chatbot, Bard, in the UK. This upgrade, called Gemini, is part of Google’s global rollout of its next-generation model, designed to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The initial release of Gemini took place earlier this month across the US and in over 170 countries, but the UK launch was delayed until now. Gemini will eventually be available in Bard across other countries and languages in the near future.

Gemini is being hailed as Google’s most capable generative AI model yet, representing a significant upgrade to Bard. While it initially focuses on text-based prompts, Google has plans for Gemini to become multi-modal, meaning it will be able to process and combine different types of information including words, pictures, video, and sound. Debbie Weinstein, the managing director and vice president of Google UK, expressed excitement about the possibilities offered by Gemini, stating, “the improved capabilities of Bard, powered by Gemini Pro, will supercharge that imagination.”

This launch comes as AI advances are accelerating, with Google following in the footsteps of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Experts predict that the next-generation generative AI models will be even more advanced than their predecessors. Google claims that Gemini is the first AI model to surpass human experts in a range of intelligence tests.

Gemini has been fine-tuned to enhance its capabilities in various areas, including understanding, summarizing, reasoning, coding, and planning. Google is also working on further extending these capabilities in future versions, with a focus on planning, memory, and providing better responses. The model will be integrated into Google’s Pixel 8 Pro smartphones, powering new features such as summarization in the recorder app and “smart reply” in the Google keyboard for WhatsApp messaging. Gemini will also be integrated into other products and services, such as Search, Ads, Chrome, and Duet AI, Google’s AI-powered cloud assistant.

Google is committed to building safeguards into Gemini and is actively collaborating with governments and experts to address the risks associated with AI. This upgrade is the result of a large-scale collaboration effort between teams across Google, including DeepMind and Google Research.

With the launch of Gemini, Google aims to establish itself as a frontrunner in AI chatbot technology. By combining enhanced capabilities and multi-modal functionality, Gemini has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with AI systems. As AI continues to evolve, advancements like Gemini are paving the way for more powerful and intelligent AI models that can contribute to various industries and sectors. The future of AI looks promising, with Google leading the way in innovation and development.
