Lucknow Set to Become India's First AI City

Lucknow, the city known for its rich culture and history, is set to make a groundbreaking transformation into India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) city. The government of Uttar Pradesh has given its approval for the development of Lucknow as an AI city, establishing it as the newest IT hub in the country. This visionary project, expected to be completed by 2030, is projected to have a huge impact on the global economy, contributing a staggering $15.7 trillion. To put this into perspective, it’s equivalent to the combined production of the world’s top three economies or nearly five times India’s current output.

The significance of this development cannot be overstated. Lucknow’s transformation into an AI city is set to propel India further into the digital age and redefine its economic landscape. By 2025, it is estimated that the AI city will raise India’s GDP by approximately $500 billion. This ambitious endeavor aligns with the government’s vision to establish Uttar Pradesh as a $1 trillion economy within the next five years.

Lucknow is already a breeding ground for innovation, boasting Centers of Excellence in fields such as AI and MedTech, with deep AI integration. The city nurtures a vibrant entrepreneurial culture, fostering over fifteen AI and machine learning start-ups. These start-ups are supported by the AI Center of Excellence, located in IIIT Lucknow, which provides them with the necessary resources and infrastructure to thrive.

To accommodate the growing demand for office space and to attract corporates, start-ups, and incubators, the real estate developer in charge of this project plans to create a tower with Grade A office spaces. This tower will feature state-of-the-art office infrastructure built on plug-and-play technology, ensuring a seamless working environment for businesses.

In terms of location, the IT and Electronics Department has identified strategic sites in Lucknow for the development of the AI city. The chosen site for the AI city spans 40 acres of land in the Nadarganj Industrial Area, which is conveniently located just 3 km from the Lucknow International Airport. This prime location further adds to the appeal of the AI city, making it easily accessible for businesses and visitors alike.

To attract investment and incentivize developers, the government is offering various financial benefits. These include a one-time capital expenditure support of 25% up to Rs 20 crore for the IT Park and Rs 100 crore for the IT City. Moreover, developers will enjoy a 100% stamp duty exemption in accordance with the IT and ITeS Policy of 2022.

The development of Lucknow as an AI city marks a significant milestone in India’s journey towards technological advancement. It showcases the government’s commitment to fostering innovation and propelling the country into the forefront of the global AI revolution.

As we witness the transformation of Lucknow, its potential to become a global tech hub cannot be overlooked. With its rich history and vibrant culture, the city now embraces a new chapter, leveraging AI to fuel economic growth and shape the future. This project not only positions Lucknow as a trailblazer in the AI arena but also sets the stage for similar developments across the nation.

In the words of Mr. Sharma, CEO of an AI start-up based in Lucknow, “The development of Lucknow as India’s first AI city is a game-changer. It opens up unprecedented opportunities for businesses, entrepreneurs, and investors. We are excited to be a part of this journey and witness the impact it will have on the global economy.”

Lucknow’s transformation into an AI city exemplifies the power of technology in shaping the world we live in. With its potential to revolutionize industries, solve complex problems, and drive economic growth, AI is set to define our future. As we witness the birth of India’s first AI city, we can’t help but feel the excitement and anticipation of what lies ahead.
