Nvidia, the leading provider of AI chips, is set to upgrade its flagship chip to enhance the capabilities of artificial intelligence systems. The new chip, known as the H200, is expected to be released next year and will be utilized by tech giants Amazon, Google, and Oracle. This upgraded version will surpass Nvidia’s current top chip, the H100. The key enhancement of the H200 chip lies in its increased high-bandwidth memory, which determines the speed at which it can process data. This improvement will enable AI services, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, to generate responses even faster with human-like writing.
With 141-gigabytes of high-bandwidth memory, the H200 chip’s capacity exceeds that of its predecessor, which only had 80 gigabytes. Nvidia has not disclosed the suppliers for the memory on the new chip, but Micron Technology has shared its intention to become an Nvidia supplier. Additionally, Nvidia has been known to source memory from South Korea’s SK Hynix, which has reported a resurgence in sales due to the demand for AI chips.
In terms of accessibility, cloud service providers will be among the first to offer access to the H200 chips. This includes major players like Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Specialized AI cloud providers, such as CoreWeave, Lambda, and Vultr, will also have access to the new chips.
The advancements made with the H200 chip have significant implications for the AI industry. AI applications heavily rely on fast processing speeds to generate accurate and timely responses. By incorporating more high-bandwidth memory and establishing faster connections to the chip’s processing elements, Nvidia is enabling AI systems to achieve higher levels of efficiency. As a result, users can expect faster and more seamless AI experiences in a variety of applications and services.
Nvidia’s commitment to advancing AI technology is evident through its continuous efforts to enhance its chips. The company’s dominance in the AI chip market, coupled with its partnerships with major tech players, solidifies its position as a frontrunner in the field. The H200 chip’s improved performance and widespread availability signify a significant milestone in the ongoing development of AI systems.
