KT Corp. and Jasmine Group Collaborate to Develop Thai Language-based LLM

In an exciting collaboration, South Korea’s leading mobile carrier, KT Corp., has announced its partnership with Thailand’s communication technology company, Jasmine Group, to develop a large language model (LLM) service based on the Thai language. Last month, KT and Jasmine Technology Solution, the ICT systems arm of Jasmine Group, signed a memorandum of understanding for the project, and on Thursday, the heads of the two companies met at KT’s headquarters in Seoul to discuss their plans.

The primary aim of the collaboration is to create an LLM model for Thailand, catered to the Southeast Asian market, while also addressing AI-related regulations specific to the region. KT will be leveraging the technologies used for creating their upcoming hyperscale AI service, Mi:dm, which is set to be released later this month. By sharing their expertise, KT hopes to assist in the development of the Thai LLM model. Meanwhile, Jasmine Group will analyze the regional market and establish a graphics processing unit (GPU) farm to power the LLM.

The construction of the GPU farm is planned for the first half of next year, with the start of Thai LLM creation scheduled for the second half. This strategic timeline aims to ensure a strong foothold in the Southeast Asian AI market. According to the research firm Statista, the generative AI market in Southeast Asia is projected to reach $1.41 billion in 2023 and grow exponentially to $7.65 billion by 2030. The cooperation between KT and Jasmine Group positions them well to tap into this significant market opportunity and contribute to Thailand’s competitiveness in the AI industry.

KT’s CEO, Kim Young-shub, expressed his confidence in the partnership, stating, “We expect to contribute to strengthening Thailand’s competitiveness in the AI industry through cooperation with Jasmine Group, and furthermore, succeed in breaking ground in the Southeast Asian AI market.” The collaboration between these two industry leaders is likely to result in innovative AI services that cater specifically to the needs and preferences of the Thai market.

This partnership exemplifies the growing trend of international cooperation in the field of AI development. Companies are increasingly recognizing the importance of cultural and linguistic customization in AI models to ensure the highest levels of accuracy and user satisfaction. By leveraging each other’s strengths and expertise, KT and Jasmine Group are well-positioned to create a Thai language-based LLM that can revolutionize the AI landscape in Thailand and beyond.

As the global AI market continues to expand, more such collaborations and partnerships are expected to arise, advancing the development and application of AI technologies worldwide. This joint venture between KT and Jasmine Group serves as an exciting illustration of how the convergence of expertise from different countries can lead to the creation of innovative AI services tailored to specific regional markets.

In a world that is becoming increasingly interconnected, the ability to harness the power of AI across different languages and cultures is a significant step forward. With their shared vision and commitment to excellence, KT and Jasmine Group are poised to make a significant impact in the Southeast Asian AI market, setting the stage for further advancements in the field.
