Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has proposed upskilling medicos with AI (Artificial Intelligence), Quantum, and other newer technologies to meet the changing requirements of patient care and to make the best use of the latest diagnostic and therapeutic modalities available. Speaking at the 63rd Annual Convocation of National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), Dr Jitendra Singh emphasized the importance of continuous skill building, particularly among young professionals.
India has been taking the lead in preventive and integrated healthcare under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dr Jitendra Singh suggested that professional medical bodies like NAMS and the government could work together to provide preventive healthcare to all citizens of the country. He believes that by focusing on disease prevention through new technology means, healthcare professionals specializing in preventive healthcare can preserve the energies of the country’s youth, who will be the architects of India’s future.
Dr Jitendra Singh lauded the healthcare reforms and enabling provisions implemented by Prime Minister Modi, which have turned India into a cost-effective medical destination. He highlighted India’s advancements in preventive healthcare, such as the production of the DNA Covid Vaccine and India’s first indigenously developed vaccine for the prevention of cervical cancer. He also pointed out that the number of medical colleges and academic sessions have increased significantly, and the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme, conceptualized by PM Modi, is considered one of the world’s best.
Discussing the challenges India will face in the future, Dr Jitendra Singh mentioned the dual challenge of preventing the spread of diseases and addressing the needs of an increasing elderly population. He stated that India has taken a quantum leap in the start-up ecosystem, space technology, and quantum technology, with Prime Minister Modi being recognized as one of the tallest leaders in the world. The recent launch of Chandrayaan-3 and the International Biofuel Alliance announced in New Delhi are testament to India’s progress in these areas.
Dr Jitendra Singh believes that with the majority of India’s population below the age of 40, preventive healthcare and widespread mass screening will support the country’s expected rate of economic growth. He stressed the importance of leveraging technology, such as AI and Quantum, to empower medicos and ensure the best possible patient care.
