In a bold move, Meng Wanzhou, the rotating chairwoman of Huawei Technologies, announced the company’s new “all intelligence” strategy at the Huawei Connect summit in Shanghai. Despite being under US sanctions, Huawei is determined to transform itself into a key provider of computing power to support China’s artificial intelligence (AI) development.
Meng, who is the heir-apparent of the company founded by her father Ren Zhengfei, emphasized that Huawei’s goal is to contribute to China’s technological progress and accelerate the “intelligent transformation” of traditional industries. While she did not provide specific details about the products, Meng stated that Huawei would offer “an alternative choice for the world.”
This strategic upgrade, referred to as “all intelligence,” is an evolution from the “all cloud” strategy announced in 2013 and the “all IP” strategy from 2003. It signifies Huawei’s determination to adapt and thrive despite the challenges posed by US sanctions. Their latest Mate 60 Pro smartphone, which includes an advanced chip capable of achieving 5G speed, has garnered attention and sparked nationalist sentiment.
Facing restrictions and trade blacklisting by the US, Huawei’s once-lucrative smartphone business has suffered. As a result, the company has diversified its revenue streams by focusing on enterprise-facing businesses and cloud computing. Additionally, Huawei has turned its attention to industrial clients, further expanding its market presence.
During the three-day Huawei Connect event, the company showcased the applications of its technologies in various industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, and finance. Meng declared that Huawei would establish a powerful computing base to fulfill the diverse AI requirements of different industries. She also highlighted the company’s support for organizations and industries in leveraging their data and specialized knowledge to develop large language models.

After a lengthy court battle and house arrest in Canada, Meng returned to China in 2021.
