KnowBe4 Acquires Egress to Create Advanced AI-Powered Cybersecurity Platform

KnowBe4, a US cybersecurity giant, has announced its acquisition of UK-based email security firm Egress. While the terms of the transaction have not been disclosed, KnowBe4 has stated that the addition of Egress’s email security tools to its suite of products will create an advanced artificial intelligence (AI)-powered cybersecurity platform.

Egress is renowned for its AI-powered email security tools, which can learn and monitor sophisticated email cybersecurity threats. These tools effectively protect organizations and their staff from attempts to breach their systems via email. On the other hand, KnowBe4 is primarily recognized for its security awareness training, featuring an AI-powered platform that simulates phishing attempts and evaluates employees' ability to identify suspicious emails. The aim is to improve education and promote behavior change among users.

Stu Sjouwerman, the CEO of KnowBe4, believes that combining these programs into one platform will enable businesses to better prepare themselves and their employees for constantly evolving cybersecurity threats. Sjouwerman emphasizes that “the future of security is personalized AI-driven controls and real-time coaching.” By offering a unified platform from KnowBe4 and Egress, customers will benefit from enhanced threat detection capabilities to stay ahead of cyber threats and foster a robust security culture.

The CEO of Egress, Tony Pepper, shares Sjouwerman’s sentiments. Both companies believe in delivering tailored and relevant security solutions to each employee. Pepper highlights the challenge faced by organizations in accurately identifying the source of compromise and why it occurred. By integrating intelligence and analytics from various applications, businesses can gain valuable insights across their entire cyber ecosystem. This allows them to focus on the most critical risks.

KnowBe4 and Egress have been integration partners for over a year and share a strong alignment in philosophy and culture. As a result, this acquisition is a natural progression for both companies to elevate human risk management and cloud email security to the next level.

The deal is expected to close in the coming months, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
