Tencent Holdings, the technology giant based in Shenzhen, is set to revolutionize the automotive industry with its AI-powered smart mobility solutions. In an event held in Beijing, Tencent executives showcased the benefits of their mobility solution, which is backed by their large language model (LLM) technology. This advanced AI technology not only enhances the in-vehicle experience but also improves efficiency throughout the automotive sector’s supply chain.
Dowson Tong, Tencent’s senior executive vice-president and CEO of the Cloud and Smart Industries Group, highlighted their commitment to exploring cutting-edge technologies in collaboration with industry partners. This includes the potential adoption of AI, LLM, cloud computing, and online mapping services in various business scenarios. The goal is to support the industry’s supply chain upgrade and drive the development of next-generation smart cars in the world’s largest electric vehicle market.
While AI models have made significant progress in the smart cockpit, Zhong Xuedan, vice-president at Tencent Intelligent Mobility, emphasized that these models have a broader application in the automotive industry beyond enhancing the in-vehicle experience. LLMs can be utilized in research and development, production, marketing, and customer services. Tencent’s smart mobility solution, based on their Hunyuan LLM, aims to assist automotive industry partners in all areas, from vehicle research and development to customer services and office collaboration.
Tencent’s vision of a smart vehicle’s cockpit involves the strategic adoption of their apps ecosystem, including popular applications like WeChat, Tencent Video, and video gaming apps. This approach has already gained traction, with over 48% of new vehicles sold in mainland China equipped with smart cockpit configurations since 2021. Consultancy firm IHS Markit projects that this number will rise to 75% by 2025.
Tencent is already working with more than 100 vehicle makers and automotive industry players, including renowned brands like Mercedes-Benz and Toyota. Additionally, Tencent has partnerships with Chinese state-owned Guangzhou Automobile Group and Changan Automobile. By the end of this year, more than 15 million cars are expected to come equipped with Tencent’s smart mobility solution.
Tencent’s push to revolutionize the automotive industry with AI-powered smart mobility solutions comes at a crucial time. Major electric vehicle manufacturers are engaged in an intense price war, while autonomous driving system developers are striving to make advancements in the pursuit of self-driving cars. Tencent’s technology and partnerships have the potential to drive innovation and efficiency in the industry, marking a significant step forward in the evolution of automotive technology.
In conclusion, Tencent’s AI-powered smart mobility solutions are poised to transform the automotive sector by enhancing the in-vehicle experience and optimizing the industry’s supply chain. With the strategic adoption of their apps ecosystem and partnerships with leading automotive players, Tencent is well-positioned to drive the mass adoption of smart cars in the world’s largest electric vehicle market.
