XTX Markets Appoints New Members to Committee for AIMO Prize

XTX Markets, a leading financial technology firm, has recently announced the appointment of five new members to the advisory committee for the Artificial Intelligence Mathematical Olympiad Prize (AIMO Prize). The AIMO Prize is a $10 million challenge fund aimed at inspiring the development of a publicly shared AI model capable of winning a gold medal in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).

The newly appointed committee members bring a wealth of expertise in machine learning and mathematics. D. Sculley, the CEO of Kaggle, joins the committee, along with Lester Mackey, a Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research and a MacArthur Fellow. Peter J. Liu, a research scientist at Google DeepMind, and mathematicians Kevin Buzzard and Leo De Moura also join the advisory group. They will work alongside existing committee members Terence Tao and Timothy Gowers, both winners of the Fields Medal, as well as Dan Roberts, Geoff Smith, and Po-Shen Loh.

The AIMO Advisory Committee plays a vital role in supporting the development of the AIMO Prize. They will provide guidance on protocols, technical aspects, and the design of competitions and prizes. Simon Coyle, Head of Philanthropy at XTX Markets, expressed his excitement about the completion of the committee, highlighting the extensive experience and wisdom that each member brings to the table.

Coyle stated, “Together, they have enormous experience in machine learning and automated reasoning and are already bringing expertise and wisdom to the AIMO Prize. We look forward to announcing the winners of the AIMO’s first Progress Prize soon, and then publicly sharing the AI models to support the open and collaborative development of AI.”

The AIMO Prize offers a grand prize of $5 million for the first publicly shared AI model that can achieve gold medal-level performance in the IMO. Additionally, there will be progress prizes totaling up to $5 million for AI models that achieve significant milestones towards the grand prize. The first approved competition for the AIMO Prize opened in April 2024 on the Kaggle competition platform, focusing on junior and high-school level math problems.

The announcement of the committee appointments and the progress made so far in the AIMO Prize highlight the growing importance and potential of AI in solving complex mathematical problems. The involvement of top experts in the field reflects a strong commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI and fostering collaboration in its development.

With the AIMO Prize, XTX Markets aims to not only reward advancements in AI but also encourage the sharing of knowledge and models. By publicly sharing the AI models created for the AIMO Prize, the company aims to contribute to the open and collaborative development of AI, ensuring that advancements in machine learning benefit the wider scientific community.

As the world continues to embrace AI and its potential, initiatives like the AIMO Prize serve as a catalyst for innovation and groundbreaking research. The contributions of the advisory committee members and the participants in the AIMO Prize will undoubtedly pave the way for new advancements in AI and its applications in various fields.
