Telecoms giant Virgin Media O2 has announced its plans to combat fraud and spam calls by implementing new AI-powered tools for its mobile customers. Teaming up with voice security company Hiya, Virgin Media O2 is set to introduce these tools alongside a caller identification system. By utilizing artificial intelligence, the spam tools will analyze phone number behavior to determine the likelihood of a call being spam or fraud. They will then either flag the call as suspicious or block it entirely, ensuring that customers are not bothered by unwanted calls.
“We’re committed to rolling out the latest technology to help keep our customers safe,” Murray Mackenzie, the Director of Fraud at Virgin Media O2, stated. “Our extensive partnership with Hiya will see us continue to improve on our existing measures and give customers additional protection from spam and fraudsters.”
Furthermore, Virgin Media O2 will implement Hiya’s Connect caller ID system, allowing companies to provide additional information during calls. This information includes the caller’s name, logo, call purpose, and location, enabling customers to swiftly identify who is calling and why.
“In the fight against phone spam and scams, carriers around the world are wrestling with the challenge of protecting the reputation of business customers,” said Kush Parikh, President of Hiya. “Hiya is doing its part to restore confidence in voice calling by aligning with leaders like Virgin Media O2.”
Virgin Media O2’s AI tools already demonstrate their effectiveness, as they have successfully prevented over 89 million spam messages from reaching consumers in 2023. The company is urging all mobile customers to report any suspicious text messages they receive by forwarding them, free of charge, to 7726.
This recent partnership with Hiya highlights Virgin Media O2’s dedication to combating spam and fraud calls, prioritizing the safety and satisfaction of their customers. By incorporating cutting-edge technology and innovating in the field of telecommunication, Virgin Media O2 is taking significant steps towards creating a safer and more reliable service for all.
