Rainbow Robotics, in collaboration with Schaeffler and the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI), is set to revolutionize the manufacturing industry with the development of AI-mobile dual-arm robots. This groundbreaking partnership was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the three entities.
The signing ceremony was attended by key figures in the industry, including Dr. Michael Pausch, Chief Technology Officer of Schaeffler’s Industrial division, Lee Jung-ho, CEO of Rainbow Robotics, and Shin Hee-dong, President of KETI. The agreement aims to jointly develop AI-based mobile dual-arm robots and corresponding operation technologies for autonomous manufacturing, as well as identify new business models to strategically expand into the global market.
Under the terms of the agreement, Schaeffler will take charge of developing and supplying key components, such as gearboxes, for the mobile dual-arm robots. KETI, on the other hand, will lend its expertise in implementing AI technology for manufacturing processes based on international standards. Meanwhile, Rainbow Robotics will be responsible for developing AI-based robot operation solutions and overseeing the production of the mobile dual-arm robots.
The collaboration between these three powerhouses will see jointly developed mobile dual-arm robots deployed in production sites across Germany and Korea. The objective is to create successful use cases for autonomous manufacturing and foster joint cooperation to expand sales to global markets.
Autonomous manufacturing is a futuristic production environment that utilizes AI technology and robots throughout the entire manufacturing process, reducing the need for human intervention while significantly enhancing production efficiency. This collaboration signifies a significant step toward the commercialization of autonomous manufacturing in the global market.
Dr. Lee Jung-ho, CEO of Rainbow Robotics, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating, “It is significant for us to advance AI mobile dual-arm robot technology with Schaeffler, a global automotive and industrial machinery specialist with extensive expertise, and KETI, leading the research in AI-based manufacturing innovation technology, to contribute to the commercialization of autonomous manufacturing in the global market.”
Dr. Michael Pausch, Chief Technology Officer of Schaeffler’s Industrial division, acknowledged the leading role of Korea in the robotics industry and expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Rainbow Robotics to drive advancements in the field. He highlighted his company’s commitment to innovation and its dedication to creating automated solutions that enhance efficiency and contribute to the evolution of smart and sustainable production processes.
Shin Hee-Dong, President of KETI, emphasized the importance of this collaborative agreement in bolstering global research and development efforts. He expects the partnership to contribute to the creation of a successful model for AI-mobile dual-arm robot development on a global scale.
As part of their collaborative efforts, representatives from Rainbow Robotics and KETI visited Schaeffler’s headquarters in Herzogenaurach for discussions regarding robotics component development. They also had the opportunity to visit Schaeffler’s Digital Transformation Center and the Innovation and Technology Centre for Production Systems at its Erlangen site, where future production technologies are being developed and demonstrated.
Schaeffler is a renowned provider of innovative motion technology products and solutions. With a focus on expanding smart and digital automation solutions, the company is at the forefront of developing precision components and solutions for industrial and lightweight robotics.
Rainbow Robotics, on the other hand, is positioned to become a leading specialist in robot platforms on a global scale. With its World-Class Quality, K-Service, C-Price (WKC) strategy, the company aims to introduce robots of world-class quality, coupled with Korean-style service and reasonable prices.
The partnership between Rainbow Robotics, Schaeffler, and KETI is poised to revolutionize the manufacturing industry. Through the development of AI-mobile dual-arm robots and the application of AI technology in manufacturing processes, this collaboration sets the stage for the widespread adoption of autonomous manufacturing in the global market.
