In the world of finance, every minute counts. That’s why Microsoft has just announced the release of its latest innovation - the Copilot AI chatbot designed specifically for those working in finance. This tool aims to boost productivity and efficiency, allowing professionals to focus on more critical tasks.
The development of the Copilot chatbot follows a trend in the industry, with many software providers incorporating artificial intelligence into their products to enhance their capabilities. Microsoft’s decision to enter this space was prompted by the success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot, which took the market by storm in 2022.
“We want every one of the departments to be enabled and enriched with a Copilot,” says Charles Lamanna, Microsoft’s corporate vice president. The company already offers Copilots for general-purpose industrial use in Office applications, as well as versions tailored for sales and customer-service workers. Now, with the addition of a Copilot for finance, professionals in this field can look forward to a range of features that aim to streamline their workflow.
The finance Copilot will initially focus on tasks such as variance analysis, data reconciliation in Excel, and speeding up the collections process in Outlook. It will integrate seamlessly with SAP and Microsoft Dynamics 365, allowing easy access to relevant data. According to Lamanna, more features will be added to the finance Copilot later this year.
The Japanese advertising agency Dentsu is one of the companies that will be utilizing the Copilot for finance tasks. Microsoft worked closely with its own finance department to develop this new tool and has already seen impressive results. Cory Hrncirik, modern finance lead in Microsoft’s office of the chief financial officer, explains, “Comparing data taken from different systems is something every finance team on the planet does a lot of.” Thanks to the Copilot, tasks that used to take a couple of hours each week now only take 10 or 20 minutes. This allows the finance team to spend more time on valuable analysis and strategic work.
While Microsoft encourages its finance employees to use the Copilot, it is not mandatory. However, the potential benefits are significant, especially for CFOs looking to accelerate the closing of books. “That is one of the big pitches for CFOs,” says Lamanna.
AI tools are becoming increasingly powerful in the banking, financial services, and insurance industry, and Microsoft’s Copilot is just one example of how these technologies are revolutionizing the way we work. With its user-friendly interface and seamless integration with existing systems, the Copilot is set to become an indispensable tool for finance professionals looking to maximize their productivity.
As the financial landscape continues to evolve, it is essential for professionals to embrace new technologies and tools that can drive efficiency and enhance decision-making. Microsoft’s Copilot offers a glimpse into the future of finance, where AI-powered assistants collaborate with human experts to achieve optimal results.
