Stellantis acquires CloudMade's AI framework to boost software strategy

Stellantis, the world’s third largest automaker, has made a significant move to boost its software strategy by acquiring the artificial intelligence framework, machine learning models, intellectual property rights, and patents of British IT company CloudMade. This acquisition is set to support Stellantis' long-term software strategy and contribute to the mid-term development of its STLA SmartCockpit, one of three technology platforms aimed at digitally integrating vehicles and drivers.

As the automotive industry increasingly shifts towards electrification, software has become a crucial aspect of a vehicle’s value, presenting an opportunity for automakers to generate additional revenue through related services. CloudMade, a developer of big data-driven automotive solutions, has been widely recognized for its AI-powered, cloud-based framework that enables the collection and analysis of automotive data sets.

Stellantis aims to leverage CloudMade’s technology to create intelligent mobility solutions more efficiently and flexibly. Yves Bonnefont, Stellantis' Chief Software Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “With the new technology, we will create intelligent mobility solutions faster and with more flexibility.” Furthermore, as part of the deal, Stellantis will welcome 44 engineers and software developers from CloudMade to join their team.

CloudMade’s software technology offers a range of capabilities, including predictive maintenance and diagnostics, Stellantis-specific voice assistance, advanced navigation and mapping, as well as targeted features for fleet management. By incorporating these features into their vehicles, Stellantis aims to enhance the overall driving experience for customers and expand its service offerings.

This acquisition highlights Stellantis' commitment to advancing its software capabilities and staying at the forefront of automotive technology. By integrating CloudMade’s AI technology into their vehicles, Stellantis is positioning itself to deliver innovative solutions that cater to the evolving needs of customers in an increasingly digital world.

Stellantis' move aligns with a larger trend within the automotive industry, where companies are prioritizing software development to differentiate themselves and create new revenue streams. As the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, automakers are recognizing the importance of software in providing a competitive edge and delivering an enhanced user experience.

By acquiring CloudMade’s AI framework and expertise, Stellantis is taking a significant step towards solidifying its position as a leader in intelligent mobility solutions. The integration of advanced software capabilities into their vehicles will enable Stellantis to provide cutting-edge features and services that meet the expectations of today’s tech-savvy consumers.

This acquisition reflects the industry’s recognition of the increasing importance of software in the automotive sector. Stellantis' investment in software development and AI technology signifies their commitment to embracing the future of mobility and delivering innovative solutions that redefine the driving experience.
