In a groundbreaking announcement, Intelliflicks Studios, a startup based in Chandigarh, unveiled the trailer for the world’s first generative AI film. The trailer, a transformative adaptation of author Khushwant Singh’s novel “Maharaja in Denims,” was screened at an event hosted by Vibrant Plus, capturing the attention of industry insiders and film enthusiasts alike.
The visionary minds behind Intelliflicks Studios are Gurdeep Singh Pall, former corporate vice-president at Microsoft, and acclaimed author Khushwant Singh. As CEO of Intelliflicks Studios, Gurdeep Singh Pall showcased the powerful fusion of artificial intelligence and cinematic artistry embodied in this transformative new medium. Work has already begun on the movie, with a tentative release planned around Baisakhi in 2025.
“This is a moment in history,” said Gurdeep Singh Pall. “AI will dominate every aspect of this world, and it is an incredible, exciting, and significant development of the human mind. I would term it the fourth industrial revolution, which will better the quality of life for people. AI is the most powerful thing ever invented by humans. It will transform everything in the world, including filmmaking.”
Khushwant Singh, the author of the novel on which the film is based, expressed his enthusiasm for exploring the possibilities of AI in filmmaking. “Once Gurdeep shared that AI would soon make filmmaking possible, we took the plunge. Our generative AI approach has opened doors to limitless creative possibilities and will surely disrupt traditional norms, shaping a new future for cinema.”
However, concerns have been raised about job cuts and unemployment due to AI advancements. Gurdeep Singh Pall believes that retraining of the job force will happen and result in a more balanced and fulfilled life for individuals. He highlighted that countries with high happiness indexes are those where people spend fewer hours at work, have better relationships, and longer vacation time. “They focus on what fulfills them. We have to be optimistic. AI will come to us, friend or foe. India can leap ahead in AI and should not hold back.”
Intelliflicks Studios, which is currently operating out of a garage, is also developing a groundbreaking AI-based toolchain that integrates cutting-edge models for image, video, language, and music in moviemaking. This innovation aims to not only set a new standard for accessible and efficient creativity but also democratize filmmaking. Anyone with a dream to make films, but limited by budgets and industry barriers, will now have a chance.
By embracing Punjab as their home base, Intelliflicks Studios aims to build synergies for production and distribution. “Our heart is in Punjab. So we decided to launch this startup from here,” said Khushwant Singh.
The unveiling of the trailer for the world’s first generative AI film marks a significant milestone in the film industry. With AI technology advancing at an astonishing pace, the possibilities for storytelling and creativity in cinema are boundless. As Gurdeep Singh Pall aptly summarized, “2024 will be the year of the video generated by AI.”
