The future of AI-generated music just got more accessible with Suno’s launch of a mobile app for iOS. Suno, known for its artificial intelligence-powered music composition, is now available on smartphones, offering users a convenient way to create and share AI-generated tracks. With the mobile app, users can describe a song and suggest lyrics, and the AI model will create an audio track that matches their vision. The app can even utilize the phone’s microphone to transform ambient sounds, like birdsong or conversations, into music. Suno co-founder Mikey Shulman expressed his excitement about the app, stating, “We’re excited that for the first time ever, these joys can be experienced from your phone! With version one of our mobile app, you can explore new musical experiences wherever you go.”
Suno’s mobile app builds upon the success of its platform, which has already attracted over 12 million users. By expanding to iOS devices, Suno aims to reach an even broader community of music enthusiasts. In fact, the company has already secured a deal with Microsoft to offer a plugin for Suno’s text-to-music tool on Microsoft’s Copilot. The app itself is free to download and provides users with 50 credits per day, allowing them to create 10 short audio clips. For more extensive use, Suno offers Pro and Premier plans.
However, Suno and fellow AI music-maker Udio are currently grappling with legal challenges from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and various music labels. These lawsuits allege that the AI startups are infringing copyright due to the way their models are trained, sparking a broader debate about the originality of the songs produced by AI systems and their potential violation of intellectual property rights.
Despite this legal uncertainty, the launch of Suno’s mobile app represents a significant milestone in AI-generated music. As the technology continues to evolve, it raises fascinating questions about the role of AI in music creation and the intersection of technology and artistic expression. With Suno’s app now readily available on iOS, music lovers can embark on exciting new musical experiences wherever they go.
