Adversaries such as China, Iran, North Korea, Russia, and cybercriminals utilize AI to enhance their efficiency, make their lies more believable, and avoid detection. For example, adversaries develop code to evade malware detection and gather information about systems to remain hidden. This trend highlights the fact that even novice hackers can quickly advance to the intermediate level, while more sophisticated adversaries become increasingly efficient.
Despite highlighting the dangers, the FBI itself recognizes the potential benefits of AI and has started employing it to improve their operations. Kaiser mentioned that the bureau is utilizing AI to enhance its processes for analyzing tips received from the public. Instead of relying solely on humans to review incoming messages, the FBI now employs natural language processing models to comb through the content and identify potential criminal activity. While stressing that a human will always be involved in the decision-making process, Kaiser emphasized the value of AI in catching important details that might be missed by humans alone.
