In a groundbreaking move, NASA has appointed David Salvagnini as its first-ever Chief Artificial Intelligence (AI) Officer. Salvagnini, who already serves as the agency’s Chief Data Officer, will now take on the additional responsibility of leading NASA’s integration of AI technology across its missions and operations. With over two decades of technology leadership in the intelligence community, Salvagnini brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His background includes serving in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and a 21-year tenure in the Air Force as a communications and computer systems officer. Effective immediately, Salvagnini will assume his new position, as outlined in NASA’s press release.
