Hyderabad to Host India's First 'Artificial Intelligence City'

Hyderabad, the vibrant southern city of India, is set to become the host of the country’s very first and largest ‘Artificial Intelligence City’ (AI City). The Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) has identified 200 acres of land in strategic locations for the establishment of this groundbreaking project. With land parcels identified in Maheshwaram, Serilingampally, Chevella, and Ibrahimpatnam mandals along the Outer Ring Road, Hyderabad is paving the way for the future of Artificial Intelligence in India.

Not only will Hyderabad be the home of the AI City, but it is also set to be the proud location of the state’s first Skill University. Spanning 100 acres, this university will focus on developing the much-needed skills for the future workforce. The TGIIC has submitted the land parcels' details to the state government for the final approval, and it is expected that the government will allot the required land soon after the election code ends in June.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is scheduled to lay the foundation for the AI City and Skill University ahead of the “Global AI Summit” that will take place in Hyderabad in July. This major event will bring together some of the brightest minds and experts in the field of Artificial Intelligence, further solidifying Hyderabad’s position as a global AI hub.

The significance of the AI City lies not only in its size but in the potential it holds for the development of the AI ecosystem in India. While the Uttar Pradesh government had previously announced the establishment of India’s first AI City in Lucknow, the project has yet to take off. Hyderabad’s AI City will cover a massive 200 acres, five times larger than the planned AI City in Lucknow, and is projected to be completed by 2028, making it the first of its kind in the country.

Emphasizing the importance of this endeavor, IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu expressed his confidence in Hyderabad becoming the “AI capital of India” with the establishment of the AI City. Speaking at a meeting organized by the Telangana Facility Manager Council, Babu stated, “By setting up a dedicated AI City, we want to make Hyderabad the ‘AI capital of India.’ Our vision is to see Hyderabad as a thriving hub for AI activity and research.”

Furthermore, officials from various departments are embarking on visits to study skill universities in other states such as Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh. This study will enable them to understand the best practices implemented in these states and replicate them in the establishment of the skill university in Telangana.

The AI City and Skill University in Hyderabad signify a significant milestone in India’s journey towards embracing and harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence. As the city continues to solidify its position as a technologically advanced and forward-thinking hub, the rest of the country will undoubtedly follow suit. With Hyderabad leading the way, India is poised to become a major player in the global AI landscape, cementing its status as an innovation powerhouse in the digital era.
