Google Launches AI for Beginners Learning Video Series in Hausa

In a groundbreaking initiative, Google is partnering with the Kaduna State Government and Data Science Nigeria to launch the AI for Beginners Learning Video Series in Hausa. This series aims to make Artificial Intelligence concepts more accessible and culturally relevant for the people of Northern Nigeria, who face various challenges in accessing tech education and career opportunities due to socio-cultural dynamics, infrastructural limitations, and language barriers.

The AI for Beginners Learning Video Series utilizes engaging animations and culturally relevant imagery to simplify complex digital concepts, fostering inclusivity and participation in the rapidly growing tech sector. The launch event, held at Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Hall in Kaduna, was a momentous occasion celebrating technology, education, and the immense potential of Northern Nigeria’s women.

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State graced the event as the Guest of Honor and delivered a keynote address emphasizing the government’s commitment to digital transformation and economic growth. He declared that AI is not just the future, but also the present, highlighting the significance of equipping people, especially women, with AI skills. This initiative sets the stage for a more innovative and prosperous Northern Nigeria, as well as positioning Kaduna as a thriving tech hub.

The Director of Google West Africa spoke during the launch event, expressing Google’s belief in technology as a powerful force for change. He stated, “By making learning resources available in local languages, we aim to empower more people.” He further highlighted that this milestone series will enhance AI knowledge across Northern Nigeria, drive innovation, and create new job opportunities.

The CEO and Founder of Data Science Nigeria, Dr. Bayo Adekanbi, emphasized the significant impact of AI education on women in Northern Nigeria. He remarked, “These women are the future leaders and innovators of Northern Nigeria, and AI is the tool that can amplify their potential.”

The event also featured speeches from representatives of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, who emphasized the national significance of this initiative and the government’s support for fostering a vibrant tech ecosystem.

The AI for Beginners Learning Video Series is now available on YouTube through the Data Science Nigeria platform and the NITDA education portal. Additionally, the series has been deployed on USB drives for distribution in primary and secondary schools, as well as public video content-copying centers across Kaduna State, ensuring accessibility for all.

This groundbreaking collaboration between Google, the Kaduna State Government, and Data Science Nigeria demonstrates a shared commitment to empowering Northern Nigeria through technology and education.
