French AI startup, Mistral, is revolutionizing the AI industry with its enhanced AI models and chat features. In a bid to stay competitive, Mistral has updated its product portfolio to offer users a range of cutting-edge capabilities.
One of Mistral’s key developments is its Le Chat chatbot platform, which now has the ability to search the web, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, with citations in line. Additionally, Le Chat now features a “canvas” tool that allows users to modify and edit content, such as webpage mock-ups and data visualizations, using Mistral’s AI models. This feature enables users to create documents, presentations, code, and mockups with ease.
Furthermore, Le Chat now has the capability to process large PDF documents and images for analysis and summarization. It can even handle files containing graphs and equations. Additionally, Mistral has incorporated Black Forest Labs' Flux Pro model for image generation into the platform. Le Chat has also introduced shareable automated workflows, called AI “agents,” which can perform tasks like scanning expense reports and invoice processing.
These new capabilities are made possible by Mistral’s advanced models. One notable model, Pixtral Large, can process both text and images, showcasing its impressive problem-solving skills with its 124 billion parameters. Mistral claims that Pixtral Large can understand documents, charts, and natural images, demonstrating frontier-level image understanding. Mistral has also unveiled a new version of its flagship text-only models, Mistral Large 24.11, which offers notable improvements in long context understanding, making it ideal for use cases like document analysis and task automation.
Both Pixtral Large and Mistral Large 24.11 are available under two licenses: a more restrictive license for research purposes and an enterprise license for development and commercialization. Mistral Large 24.11 can already be found in Mistral’s API and on AI platform Hugging Face. It will soon be accessible through popular cloud platforms like Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure.
Mistral, based in Paris, recently raised $640 million in venture capital and continues to expand its AI offerings. The company aims to create highly competitive models and services while generating revenue. Mistral’s approach differs from other AI startups, as it focuses on placing frontier AI capabilities in the hands of users, allowing them to harness the power of advanced AI according to their needs.
As Mistral leads the charge in AI innovation, it continues to make waves in the industry, providing users with cutting-edge technologies and services that unlock efficiency and drive innovation.
“AI can be a powerful tool in the hands of users, and at Mistral, we strive to deliver frontier capabilities that empower our users to take advantage of advanced AI and shape the future,” says Julien Moreau, Co-founder and CEO of Mistral.
With Mistral’s enhanced AI models and chat features, the future of AI is looking more promising than ever.
