Nvidia to Establish AI School in Solo, Indonesia

In a landmark development for Indonesia’s technological landscape, Nvidia, the leading U.S.-based technology company specializing in graphics processing units (GPUs), has announced its plans to invest in several Indonesian cities, including Solo. The highlight of this investment is the establishment of an AI school in Solo, as revealed by Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang during his recent visit on November 14, 2024.

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who made the announcement, emphasized the significance of this initiative. He stated that the AI school in Solo will provide an incredible opportunity for young Indonesians to acquire valuable skills in the field of artificial intelligence. Gibran, who is also the son of the 7th President Joko Widodo, reiterated the vision of a golden Indonesia and emphasized the crucial role of education in achieving this goal.

“We are fortunate to have a demographic bonus, but this is a one-time opportunity. It won’t come again,” Gibran stressed during a speech at the Tanwir I of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Youth in Central Jakarta on November 21, 2024.

This move by Nvidia aligns with the government’s vision of digitalization, as emphasized by President Prabowo. In fact, Vice President Gibran has urged Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti to introduce coding and AI subjects into the elementary and junior high school curriculum. This would lay a solid foundation for students to develop their skills in these areas from an early age.

In response to this initiative, Minister Mu’ti has confirmed that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education plans to incorporate coding and AI as optional subjects in the upcoming curriculum reform. However, he also highlighted that successful implementation will depend on the availability of adequate facilities and infrastructure in schools.

As Indonesia strives to unlock its potential in the global technological landscape, the establishment of an AI school in Solo by Nvidia is a significant step forward. This initiative will not only provide young Indonesians with valuable skills but also contribute to the development of a vibrant AI ecosystem in the country.

With its cutting-edge technology and expertise, Nvidia is well-positioned to establish a world-class AI school that can nurture the next generation of Indonesian AI talents. The school is expected to offer comprehensive training programs and resources, equipping students with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in the field of artificial intelligence.

This investment from Nvidia is not only a testament to Indonesia’s growing prominence in the global technology industry but also a recognition of the country’s potential to become a leading hub for AI development. The AI school in Solo will undoubtedly pave the way for further advancements in this field and empower young Indonesians to contribute to the future of AI on a global scale.

As the Indonesian government continues to prioritize digitalization and technological advancement, initiatives like the establishment of the AI school in Solo will play a crucial role in unlocking the country’s potential and creating a robust ecosystem for innovation and growth.

In the words of Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, “We are thrilled to invest in Indonesia and contribute to the growth of its AI capabilities. The country has immense potential, and we are excited to play a part in nurturing the next generation of AI talents.”
